What's In My School Bag?

October 30, 2016 0 Comments A+ a-

Hey beautiful! Today's post is quite simple but may be helpful. It's simply 'What's in my school bag?'. To be honest this post should have been written ages ago, I'm talking about the start of this academic school year. Buuut, seeing as we are about to start the second half of this school term, an update may be needed.

Planner:

Luckily, in the school that I go to, a planner is provided at the start of the year. As we are going into a new term, please make sure you have something that can keep you organised. There's nothing worse than forgetting that your essay is due today, or having to rush into a blog post because it needs to be up by tomorrow or even getting a panic attack because you found out your exam is actually in two days, not in two weeks. Make sure you're organised and you're keeping track.

Textbooks:

Get your text books guys. Starting school again means that more content is going to be covered in whatever subject you're doing. Especially if you're doing GCSEs or A-levels- make sure you have your books on ya! I actually need to buy mine. *thinking emoji*

Female necessities:

Tissues, lip balm, pad/tampon, hair clips, hair tie, compact mirror, gum etc etc. Make sure you have your daily needs cause you don't know when they'll become in handy.

Equipment:

Personally, I need my maths equipment which includes a geometry set, a scientific calculator, pens and pencils, highlights, rubber and rulers etc. I also do art which means I need my mini folder which contains my artwork. Overall, just make sure you have everything you need for that day/week.

Book:

Long story short: no book = one behaviour point. Whatever the punishment or no punishment there is for not having a book- just make sure you have one.

Exercise/School book:

Nothing worse than going to school and not having your school book which you'll need for a particular subject. Not only could you get in trouble but you could struggle.

Homework:

Because who's really got time to get a detention for missing homework?

That's it guys, its a short post but I wanted to do this post to get this out of the way plus school is soon starting so why not just get this out there? Thank you for reading. Lots of love gurl <3
Btw, my bag is from Matalan. If memory serves correctly, it costs £14.00 :)

Halloween Nail Tutorial: Egyptian Bones

October 23, 2016 2 Comments A+ a-

Hola gurls! Halloween is fast approaching so what better way to get into the holiday than creating a nail tutorial? Yes, let's do this. Just a heads up guys, most of the products I use are not big name brands, most products I use have been purchased online or have been given to me as as a present. I advise you to use whatever brand of nail polish you like or have, just make sure the polish is good quality. If there's a unique, particular shade that I feel could be benefit you guys in anyway, then I'll post the name of the polish along with the number but to be frank, there's nothing crazy amazing about the specific brands I use so use whatever you want to use. Now with that off my chest, let's get started.

What you will need:

- A black nail polish
- A white nail polish
- A gold nail polish
- A glitter nail polish (I used gold glitter to bring out the gold nail polish which was quite faint)
- A dotter pen (You can use a ball point pin or a bobby pin as an alternative)
- A thin black nail varnish to create the stripes
- Base coat and a top coat

Thumb & ring finger:

1. Apply your base coat
2. Apply two coats of gold nail polish
3. Add your glitter nail varnish on top. (TIP: dab on the glitter nail varnish using a sponge to have more pigmented glitter)
4. Finish with a top coat

Forefinger:

1. Apply base coat
2. Add your black nail polish
3. Finish with a top coat

Middle finger:

1. Apply base coat
2. Apply two coats of white nail polish. Wait till it dries.
3. using your doting pen or bobby pin etc, apply gold and black dots all over
4. Once it dries, finish with a top coat

Pinky finger:

1. Apply a base coat.
2. Add two coats of white nail polish. Wait till it dries.
3. Using a black striper pen, add black stripes from the bottom of your finger to the top.  (TIP: If you're shaky, rest your hand on a table and move your pinky finger downwards whilst placing the striper on your nail.)
4. Seal with a top coat.

And that's it! If you have read this post, thank you a million for doing so! This tutorial was quite simple, I think the only difficulty was documenting it for you guys but you know that I would do it for the blog :) But I hope you enjoy the holiday guys and have a great half term. I should be writing some more interesting posts so keep an eye out. Stay blessed!

5 Things I Learnt Since Starting School Again

October 16, 2016 0 Comments A+ a-

Heyyyaaa guys! So it has almost been a month since I've started school and I've learnt quite a lot in such a short space of time. Yeah, school is for studying, especially seeing as it's my last year. Plus it's the year that counts the most but honestly, honest to lord Jesus our saviour, I'm sick and tired of hearing the same old mantra: "This is the most important year" , "You have to give it a hundred" and "It's not time for fun and games anymore". I KNOW THAT yet they think saying all o
f that over and over again is motivating, no boo, it's demotivating - it's the complete and utter opposite of motivating.

But I'm not ranting about school and stress right now, I'm focused more on what I've personally learnt and hopefully you can take some of that learning experience and apply it to your life in some way because we are all humans up in here so let's help our brothas and our sistahs. Can I get an amen? Alright, here we go!

#1: School drains your energy as you begin GCSEs

In other words, you become more tired. I don't know if it's just me or everyone else too but since starting school, I've been so tired. Coming home to my bed/sofa is a blessing. So remember, all that work will tire you out. Not to mention if you play sports/blog etc.

#2: Some people will never change

Probably a lot of you are thinking 'everyone has to change at some point'. True, but there are some people who no matter how much you think they'll mature/learn, they never do. Some people carry the  same persona. Good or bad. Leave those people be, just let them gooooo.

#3: You will have good days and bad days

On the first week of starting school, I cried. The second week of school I cried, again. That's two times. And although I'm sensitive, I'm not a big crier, as in crying once every week since starting school is very out of character for me. But you live and you learn. What you must realise you guys is that great things are going to happen which will fill your life with happiness and there's terrible things that will happen that will make you feel anxious or depressed. But know that you're not the only one. So enjoy the here and now and don't overthink it too much.

#4: Time is precious. Don't waste it.

Don't waste your time worrying. Don't waste your time being bitter. Don't waste your time on him/her. Don't waste something that you will never get back. In year 11, you learn that time ain't no joke! If there's a situation or person who's causing you to feel negative and you know it's not going to matter 3 years from now, don't even waste your time honey, you're worth too much for any/people negative vibes.

#5: Some people are not meant to be in your life for too long.

Enjoy the people who are in your life but always keep in mind who's permanent and who's temporary. Situations that may happen to you will show you who's is supposed to be in your life and who's not.

Thank you for reading! Comment below some things that you have learnt since starting school. Always remember to do what makes you have a peaceful mindset because at the end of the day, you have your best interest at heart. God bless xx

4 Books To Read This Autumn

October 09, 2016 0 Comments A+ a-

Hello beautiful people! So October is finally here, the peak of Autumn. Spring and Autumn - *heart eyes*. I love Spring because that's my birthday season and Autumn is just that month where everyone is inside, you get to drink hot beverages and wear jumpers etc etc etc. Plus the FOMO is not that bad seeing as it's not Summer anymore plus you're not freezing to yo' toes because it's not yet Winter. Just that nice in between!

One thing that I love to do during the colder seasons is to stay inside and either read or catch up with my series. So in this post I'll be suggesting some books you really should read this upcoming Autumn/Winter period.

Flowers in the attic

This has to be one of my favourite books (Noughts and Crosses comes first). I'm currently reading the second one and I'm planning to finish it hopefully by next week. This book is about four children who are locked away from society in an attic with a merciless grandmother. Their father has died and now they are to meet the horror and nightmares of which the attic has in store for them. I don't want to spill too much but I really want you guys to read this book! It's teen fiction and great! Warning: Might make you cry.

Secrets at St. Judes - Jealous girl

This is not the first book in the series but 'Jealous Girl' is equally as good. Roughly it's about a girl who comes from sunny LA to wet and windy Edinburgh. She befriends 3 other girls and they get up to all sorts. I would recommend this to younger teens/if you're in your mid teens. If you are 16+ you may want something more mature but either way Secrets at St. Judes is worth a read. It's a romance/teen fiction.

Siege

The thing about books is that they're not as graphic and detailed as watching a movie. A movie connects with you visually whilst using sounds. So usually when there's a horror or thriller book, I tend to read it regardless because I know it cannot scare me to such an extent. HOWEVER, if you're looking for a book to REALLY keep you on edge, I've got you girl! Siege has suspense. No joke! Every chapter is a cliffhanger. Very hard to put down. Definitely a thriller, not really a horror. It's about a girl who is trapped in a school with gunmen/terrorists and they're murdering/causing chaos across the whole school. But there's a twist... Quite interesting for me because it's set in the UK, so it keeps me guessing what I would do in the girl's situation. Warning: Quite sad at the end.

The story of my life

Anne Cassidy is the bae. All her books are interesting and intriguing especially 'Looking for JJ' which everyone should read at some point! I'm actually in the process of reading 'The story of my life' but so far I'm hooked. The beginning is a bit slow but it soon jumps straight into it so that's all good. Overall it's about a boy name Kenny who's looking for a guy named Tommy but if he finds Tommy, there's a possibility all hell might break loose, plus he only has a few hours to find him. I'm guessing it's teen fiction or thriller but most likely teen fiction.

Soap and Glory: Sun Kissed Tint Body Lotion

October 02, 2016 2 Comments A+ a-

Hey Guys! So now I'm doing my first ever review! So lets just hope it all goes to plan. Pray for my guys. Okay guys, the product I'll be reviewing is the soap and glory sun kissed body tint. I actually didn't buy this as one product, I got the whole Soap and Glory bundle for Christmas (thanks Grandma!), so the body tint came with the bundle. Being that I am black, I don't need a tanning lotion to 'tan' my body ;) My body has enough melanin for that so the question is, what do I think?

The Description

The lotion has a Shea butter and a Frangipani flower infusion. It instantly washes off and has no streaks. It should be left for 2-3 minutes to properly 'set' before you get dressed (please wait those 2 minutes, trust me, I've not waited and it's gone on clothing- yeah, it washed out but still be cautions.) The product also states that it's temporary and is long lasting.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
- It leaves a slight shimmer and shine, even on brown skin.
- Can be used as a normal cream (if you are lighter in tone and want to use it daily, use small amounts or mix with your normal cream so that it doesn't look too 'obvious')
- Washes out easily, don't have to be using a sponge, towel, kitchen roll, a CGP book and sandpaper to scrub off
- Moisturising

Cons:
- If you don't spread it evenly and it dries, you will have faint lines and streaks.
- Not that effective if you have darker skin like me.
- Shimmer is not that bold
- Can smear on clothing if you don't let it dry.
- Will rinse off quicker if you go swimming with it on

F.A.Q

How much is it?
The product itself is £8.00

Can I use it if I have darker skin?
You can but you won't have this bold, golden effect, it's very faint.

Where can I purchase the product?
If you live in the UK, boots

Is it worth the price?
Personally, I wouldn't pay £8.00 for just the cream. But then again, I wouldn't pay £8.00 for any tanning product because I don't necessarily need it. However, I love using it as a regular cream or mixing it with another cream plus it's nice to have it come with the whole bundle.

Overall opinion/rating?
Great moisturiser, bronzes skin faintly and is a nice texture (not too heavy/light).
3/5

Thank you for reading my first ever review guys! Hope to do more in the future.
Stay blessed,

Simply, Jessy Tee
